2018 Reading Challenge

Standard

This year I decided to do a reading challenge to try and move some of the books from my TBR list to my Read list. I don’t even remember how I found this one, but it’s by MommyMannegren and I started it Jan. 1st right on time. I am almost done with the challenge and am struggling through the last 3. I have a “Bookstagram,” which is apparently a thing now, where I review all of the books I’ve read. I’m at 125 out of my yearly goal of 150, so I’m a little bit ahead of the 52 books in 52 weeks pace set for this challenge. Haha

I have my three remaining books picked out, I just need to get to them. The book with the green spine was hard to choose because I mostly read ebooks. That’s the easiest for me since I read so many and also that’s how I receive the majority of my ARCs. I chose The One and Only by Emily Giffin because it was the closest to green I had on my physical book shelf. It pretty meh reviews, so I haven’t been excited to read it.

For the 2017 Goodreads Awards, I chose Into the Water by Paula Hawkins. I’ve been excited to read this one, but I’ve been stuck on my next book and haven’t gotten to it yet.

For a book with a character who shares my name, I chose Ilium by Dan Simmons. A character in the book shares my dad’s exact first and last name so I went with that one. Ashlee is a pretty common name, so I did a search for my not so common last name thinking it may be more difficult. This book is a retelling of The Iliad, which I didn’t love…I didn’t realize that until I bought it. The author also uses a lot of big words, so I feel dumb when I’m reading it, but I will attempt to finish by the end of the year. All 570 pages of it.

Finish 13 by Halloween Project Pan Intro

Standard

This will be first project pan in almost 2 years and I’m super late starting it…lol my guess is that this will turn into a rolling pan. If you don’t know what a project pan is, essentially you set a goal for yourself to finish X amount of products by a certain time frame. Or make progress on finishing said products.

A little background: I have a few chronic illnesses and had to stop working about a year and a half ago. I don’t wear makeup as often as I use to. Read: maybe once a month vs. daily. However, I still have far too much makeup and need to use it up before it goes bad. I just did a huge declutter, but still have so many products it’s shameful really.

Goals: I don’t anticipate finishing any of these by Halloween, but I would like to at least make some progress. I’m using this PP to allow me focus on these certain products versus being overwhelmed by options.

Hoola Bronzer – I feel like most people could use this up within a month or so, but I’ve been working on this thing for years. 😂 literally. I love it because it’s not too warm and it works well with my pasty skin. I use it as an eyeshadow sometimes too. I just want to see more pan, again I don’t anticipate on using this up completely.

Elizabeth Mott Pop Goes the Shadow in Champagne – I got this years ago in a subscription box and it needs used up before it dries out. I don’t even anticipate hitting pan on this, but I’d like to focus on using it.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder – I’m a broken record at this point, this is old. It needs to go. I don’t anticipate hitting pan, just progress. You get the picture.

Colorpop Super Shock Shadow in Hanky Panky – I usually use this as an eyeshadow base and it works well, but you can see that it’s starting to dry out. I’m giving myself until the end of this year and then if it’s not gone I’ll be tossing it.

This is an old elf palette and as you can see, it’s been knocked around, but not really used…lol I plan on playing around with it a bit and choosing one or two shadows to work on panning.

Simple Micellar Water – I should actually be able to finish this one! I don’t notice any difference one way or the other when I use this. I wouldn’t repurchase it, but I would still like to finish it.

Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer – I’m ashamed at how old this is and the fact that it’s a mini and I haven’t used it up. 🤦‍♀️ There’s another line at the top from an old project pan, which tells me that this is over 2 years old and it needs to go. It hasn’t gone off yet, but if it’s not gone by the end of the year it’ll be thrown out.

Becca Liquid Skin Perfector in Opal – I really like this liquid highlight, but it needs to go. I don’t think that I’ll finish it unless I paint my body with it, but I need to make some progress.

Makeup Forever HD Microfinish Powder – I need to use this more and see if I like it or if I need to pass it on. I don’t remember one way or the other, which probably means it’s just okay. Lol

Clean Rain rollerball – Lol at me putting a rollerball in a PP. 😑 I have so many of these little mini rollerball perfumes and I need to work through them. I don’t wear perfume very often anymore because of my migraines, but this one doesn’t bother me.

Old busted up Nars Orgasm blush – I’m giving this one until the end of the year and then I’ll toss out whatever is left.

Bite Beauty mini lipstick in Rhubarb – I have a million little mini lipstick bullets that need used up. This one should be easy since it’s a nice wearable color at least.

Sephora eyeliner in Coffee – This is brand new, but I’m hoping to at least sharpen it once by Halloween. 😂

Here’s to hoping that I’m able to at least use these products once in the next 10.5 weeks. I usually did updates every month or so, but I’ll just have to play it by ear this time.

Thanks for reading, I hope to be able to get back in the game. 💕

Standard

It’s been almost two years since I’ve written a blog post! I didn’t plan on taking a break, let alone a two year break, but my health made that choice for me.

I know that this is a makeup/product blog, so I’ll gloss over the details and just say that my chronic migraines became more frequent and worse in intensity and I had (and still have) a sudden and unexplained weight gain that caused my body to freak out for a solid year and a half. The migraines make my brain like scrambled eggs due to brain fog, but I would like to continue posting again when I’m able.

Is there anything specifically that you’d like to see from me on here? Lemme know!

EMPTIES – #21 WOULD I REPURCHASE? (PUMPED OR DUMPED)

Standard

I haven’t done an empties since June! 😮 I’ve accumulated quite a bit so I’m just going to start.

img_8103

Sephora – Dry Clean Instant Dry Brush Cleaner Spray – Retails for $14.00 – Pumped

I really liked this brush cleaner for spot cleaning brushes in between my shampooing. It didn’t leave a greasy feeling and did a great job of cleaning the brushes. However, I really like the Make Up Forever Instant Brush Cleaner as well and it retails for $12.00 for 1.69 and the bottle isn’t aerosol so I’ve repurchased that instead.

img_8105

Burt’s Bees – Herbal Blemish Stick – Retails for $7.99 at ULTA – Pumped

I really like this for my blemishes. It is all natural and works to dry up my spots. It’s in a roller ball so it’s easy to use as well and I’ve repurchased it several times.

img_8104

Dionis – Crisp Pear Hand Cream – Retails for $2.99 from ULTA – Meh

This smelled nice and worked okay, but it didn’t feel any different to me than any other lotion. I’ve been on the search for a good hand cream so we’ll see if I can find a really good one. They have one at Sally’s, but I always forget to pick it up when I’m there for hair color. Haha

img_8017

LiveBeautifullyBody – Feel Better Butter Rest & Relax – Retails for $3.50 – Pumped

This is the sample size and the bigger size retails for $15.00 for 2 oz. It is a body butter made of shea and cocoa butter with essential oils in it to help you relax and sleep and it smells so good. I have repurchased the larger size. It does help calm me to sleep, but I’ve also used it during meditation or when I’m feeling anxious.

img_8018

Derek Lam 10 Crosby – Rain Day – Full Size Retails for $95 for 1.7 oz – Meh

I mean, this smelled nice and I would purchase it if it weren’t so expensive. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll spend the money if the scent blows me away, but this wasn’t worth the $95 to me.

img_7956

Terry Mulger – Alien – Full Size Retails for $82 for 1 oz. – Pumped

Now this. This is worth the money for me and I’ve already purchased the full size. I love this scent. I can’t describe it so here are the notes. Solar Accord, Jasmine Sambac, Green Notes, Cashmeran, Vanilla, Transparent Amber. I don’t know what half of this stuff is, but it smells delicious.

img_7994

Nest – Citrine – Full Size Retails for $25 for the rollerball – Meh

I liked this scent, but I wouldn’t purchase the full size. It was just okay to me. It didn’t seem to last very long on me.

img_8013

Benefit – Roller Lash – Full Size Retails for $24.00 – Meh

Bare Minerals – Lash Domination – Full Size Retails for $19.00 – Dumped

MAC – False Lashes Extreme Black – Full Size Retails for $23.00 – Dumped

I really didn’t like any of these mascaras. The Roller Lash was okay, but I wouldn’t purchase the full size because I didn’t feel like it didn’t do anything spectacular to my lashes. The Lash Domination wand kept poking me in the eye and the formula was really watery so I didn’t even finish it. And the MAC mascara was just terrible to me. The wand and the formula did not work with my lashes at all.

img_8014

Supergoop – Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF 50 – Full Size Retails for $12.00 for 1 oz – Dumped

This didn’t seem to make my makeup last longer and it sprayed out in a really wet spray versus a fine mist. I did like that it had an SPF in it, but it wasn’t a fun experience to use.

img_7955

Too Faced – Primed & Powerless Skin Smoothing Face Primer – Full Size Retails for $30.00 -Dumped

Cover Fx – Mattifying Primer – Full Size Retails for $38.00 – Dumped

I didn’t like either one of these primers. I tried them with different foundations and they made my foundation break apart and they balled up. I tried using a little, a lot, over different moisturizers and will different foundations. I don’t understand the hype, although I know that everyone’s skin is different.

img_7982

Burt’s Bees – Intense Hydration Eye Cream – Retails for $12.99 at Target – Pumped

I really liked this eye cream. It was thick, but it absorbed nicely and didn’t leave any residue behind so I could wear it under my makeup. I would repurchase if I could find it again.

img_7980

Burt’s Bees – Cleansing Oil – Full Size Retails for $15.99 for 6 oz – Meh

This worked okay for light makeup, but didn’t take all of my eye makeup off. I had to go back in with a micellar water to remove the rest of my eye makeup. I used it all, but I wouldn’t repurchase.

Thank y’all for reading about my trash and I hope that you are having a great week!

CROSSING 6 OFF OUR CHRISTMAS LIST PROJECT PAN CHALLENGE UPDATE #1

Standard

Time for my first update for my Crossing 6 off our Christmas List PP Challenge. You can read my intro post HERE. I chose 6 high end products to finish by Christmas so let’s take a look at how I’ve done so far! It’s been 5 weeks since my last post for reference.

img_8106

I made some pretty good progress on this Coach perfume and I like how it smells, but it doesn’t last very long so I wouldn’t repurchase it.

img_8040

I’ve been using this, but it’s going to take awhile to make some progress I guess. This is the same picture from last time. The line hasn’t moved at all.

img_8107

I’ve been making some progress on this primer as well and I really do love it, it just needs used up before it goes bad. I don’t want to waste such a great product.

img_8042

This is the same picture as well since I can’t see through the bottle to tell how much is left. I will say that I don’t like how it wears under lip products. Which is weird since it’s marketed as a primer. I don’t know that I’ll finish it, but we’ll see.

img_8108

I’ve made a little bit of progress on both of the lip products, which I’m happy with because I’ve been wearing different colors lately.

Overall, I’m happy with the progress so far. I’ve been trying to remember to integrate these products in my routine. 🙂

Thanks so much for reading! ❤ Ashlee

Crossing 6 Off Our Christmas List Project Pan Challenge Intro

Standard

I first heard about this challenge from GlamourWithGrace on YouTube. She collaborated with three other girls for this challenge where they picked six high end products to try and finish by Christmas.

Most of my high end products are eye shadows and lipsticks, which take quite a while to use up so I actually had a hard time choosing six products, but I was able to come up with some.

img_8037 img_8038

The first thing I chose was this Coach Poppy Flower perfume because I have a backup of it and it doesn’t have the best staying power so I would like to move it out of my collection. It retails for about $35 for an ounce depending on where you go. It’s described as citrusy, floral and fresh.

img_8039 img_8040

I chose this Model in a Bottle setting spray because I’ve had it for over a year now and I need to use it up. It’s a great setting spray, but it’s intense and feels like hairspray on your face. Lol that’s probably why it works so well. It retails for $19.95 + $5.00 shipping on the company’s website (which I’ve linked) or $17.41 with free shipping on Amazon, but the seller is not through Amazon so it’s up to you.

img_8041

Again, I’ve had this Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer for quite awhile and have been hoarding it away for special occasions…haha. However, it will end up going bad before it gets used if I do that because there aren’t many special occasions in my life these days. I’m old and boring and I love it. I love this primer and it’s basically full. I only used it on my sister for her wedding and that was it. This is the 0.33 oz bottle and it retails for $19.00 at Sephora.

img_8042

I never reach for this lip treatment from Clinique. It’s their All About Lips and I haven’t really found that  I’ve used it regularly enough to love or hate it, but it retails for $23.50. I can’t really tell how much is in here, but I haven’t used it very much. Maybe 5 times so I may not get through it, we’ll see.

img_8063

I love this High Pigment Pencil from Bite Beauty in Rhubarb and get a lot of compliments when I wear it, however, this is a mini and I have a second mini already in my collection as a backup. So…I’d like to move at least one mini out of my collection and if I’m still in love with it then I will purchase the full size. It’s described as a plum rose and the full size retails for $24.00 at Sephora. They actually have a little holiday set right now that includes this as well as another beautiful fall shade in the mini version for $14.00. They are very pigmented, creamy, satin finish and they last quite awhile on my lips. I love them and have several in different shades.

img_8064

Another mini that I’m in love with and trying to move out of my collection while still trying to decide if the full size is worth the price tag is this Marc Jacobs Poutliner Longer Lip Liner Pencil in Primrose. They describe the color as cocoa spice and the full size retails for $24.00. I will say that when I went to wipe the swatches off of my hand I had to really scrub to get this one off so I’m interested to see how it wears. I’ve never used it before so I’m excited. It’s a gel type formula and didn’t tug when I switched it, just glided on nicely.

img_8065

The top swatch is the Bite pencil and the bottom one is the Marc Jacobs liner.

So those are the 6 products that I hope to finish by Christmas! I know that some of them are minis and the perfume is half way gone, but trust me if I finish these I have plenty more to substitute in. 🙂

I hope that y’all are enjoying cooler weather and getting to bust out your sweaters and scarves and hoodies soon!

FINISH 5 BY FALL (+1 BONUS PRODUCT) – PROJECT PAN CHALLENGE – FINALE

Standard

The first official day of fall is 9/22/16 so it is time for my Finish 5 by Fall Project Pan Challenge Finale! Spoiler Alert, I didn’t finish all of my products, but I did a pretty decent job and I’m impressed with the progress that I’ve made. It’s been less than a month since my last update (which you can check out here) because I had a big gap between my first and second updates due to being ill most of July. You can read my first update and intro post here.

img_8016 Finale

IMG_7989 Second Update

IMG_7816 First Update

IMG_7635

Intro Pic

This is the It Cosmetics Celebration Foundation and I am really impressed with how much progress I’ve made during this project. I haven’t use it every day, by any means, and I’ve still hit major pan. I will continue using this until it’s used up and I already have a back up of it. I really love using it over a BB cream or by itself.

IMG_7992 img_8020

The top one is from the last update and the bottom one is the most recent. When I first started using it for the project it was a brand new shadow and this is a ColourPop shadow in Hanky Panky. It’s hard to tell progress with these shadows because of their consistency. They kind of just get smushed around in the pan, but I do love using this as a base or by itself so I will continue using it, but maybe not every day because I’m not in a huge hurry to use it up now that I know that I love it.

I did declutter that entire Lorac palette though so I’ll count that as using up a product.

img_8015

I used up this Marc Jacobs gloss on top of the Too Faced one so that is 2 glosses total, but since they were deluxe sample sizes I’ll count them as one.

I decluttered the Sinful Colors polish that I originally had in the project so I’ll count that as a product used up so we’re up to 3.

img_8021

I’ve made great progress on the Model Co lip liner and actually just got a new one in my Lip Monthly box. Lol I will continue using it up and move on to another liner in my collection, probably a darker one for fall. We’ll just have to see. I have been using that UD Naked mini lipstick, but it just doesn’t want to show any progress! I will continue using it up and have a full size back up in my collection, but I am getting sick of the color so I may have to switch it up for the next PP challenge.

Overall, I finished 3 of the 6 products and made major progress on the lip liner and foundation so I’m happy with the way this challenge went. I’ll have to check around to see if there are any fun PP challenges floating around other than the 13 by Halloween because I already know I won’t finish 13 products in 6 weeks. Haha.

I hope that y’all have a great week! ❤

FINISH 5 BY FALL (+1 BONUS PRODUCT) – PROJECT PAN CHALLENGE – UPDATE #2

Standard

It’s been 9 weeks since my last update because I was sick the entire month of July and didn’t use any of the products/didn’t wear any makeup. You can read my update #1 here and my intro post here!

IMG_7989 IMG_7816

I’ve made some good progress considering I went an entire month without wearing any makeup!

IMG_7992

I ended up decluttering that Lorac palette (gave it to my mom) so I added in this Colourpop shadow in Hanky Panky, but I forgot to take a before picture so here is where I am right now.

IMG_7990

I used up the Too Faced gloss so I added in the Marc Jacobs gloss in Kissability. It’s not my favorite and I already know that I wouldn’t purchase the full size, but there isn’t very much in the tube so I will finish it up pretty quickly.

I ended up tossing that Sinful Colors polish because it just kept getting thicker and thicker. I didn’t add in another polish because I am currently going through all of my polishes to declutter them at the moment.

IMG_7991

I made pretty good progress on both the lipliner as well as the Naked lipstick. I anticipate using up the lipliner for sure if not both products by the end of the project.

I have about 3 1/2 weeks left in the project and I am going to guess that the lip products will be used up, but that the powder foundation will not be and possibly the eyeshadow depending on how often I wear makeup between now and then. It’s a cream shadow so it’s hard to tell. My next post will be the finale post so we’ll just have to see!

Thank you so much for reading and I hope that you are having a great weekend! ❤

EMPTIES – #20 WOULD I REPURCHASE? (PUMPED OR DUMPED)

Standard

I know that I just posted an Empties post about a week ago, but I mentioned in that post that I needed to break it up because I had so many of them so that this part two to that post.

IMG_7567

White Cloud – Cotton Squares – Retails for $3.50? I can’t find them online – Meh

These are okay. I’ve talked about them on here before about how the “stitched” areas sometimes felt scratchy. I finished these a couple months ago and have been using cotton wash cloths that are usually used as reusable baby wipes and they work great as reusable makeup remover wipes. I won’t be purchasing cotton rounds/squares or makeup wipes anymore.

IMG_7678

Clinique – Rinse Off Foaming Cleanser – Full Size Retails for $20.00 – Meh

This cleanser worked okay for me, but I’ve just realized over the years that I prefer a gel cleanser vs. a foaming or milky one. I think that it’s because I have combo to oily skin so I don’t need the added moisture that usually accompanies foaming cleansers so my face just feels cleaner with gel cleansers. I wouldn’t purchase the full size.

IMG_7679

Live Beautifully Body Etsy Shop – Feel Better Butter Aches & Pains – Sample Retails for $3.50 – Pumped

I have already purchased the full size of this and am obsessed. I have arthritis, a bulging disc that is pressing on my sciatic nerve that is pending surgery and fibromyalgia so I know all about aches and pains and this really does help. This Etsy shop has no idea who I am and I’ve purchased several other things from them. Their shipping is quick, packaging is adorable and their products are great quality. I just like purchasing from Etsy because I know that I’m supporting small business!

IMG_7685

Wet n Wild – Mega Protein Mascara – Retails for $1.79 – $2.99 depending – Pumped

Y’all…I am a mascara snob and usually only use high end mascara, but this baby had my lashes looking amazing. I have already repurchased. I had upwards of 7-8 people ask me what mascara I was wearing whenever I had this on. I couldn’t believe that it kept my lashes curled and gave me volume and length.

IMG_7714

Elf – Shimmer Gloss – Retails for $2.00 – Pumped

The little sticker on the bottom fell off so I’m not sure what color this was, but I need to find it because I got a lot of compliments on this $2.00 gloss too! It went on smooth, wasn’t sticky, but lasted quite awhile. This was in my last PP Challenge and I finally finished it off.

IMG_7716

Sephora – Triple Action Cleansing Water – Retails for $6.00 – Pumped

This worked really well to remove my makeup and leave my skin feeling clean and soft. I would repurchase if the drugstore options I have in my stash don’t stack up.

IMG_7745

Olay – Active Botanicals Refreshing Gel Cleanser – Retails for $5.99 – Pumped

I received this cleanser from Influenster and have been looking for it in stores since I finished it! I love it. It was kind of minty and left my face feeling soothed and clean and calm. I will definitely purchase it if I am able to find it in stores!

IMG_7713

Olay – Oil Minimizing Toner – Retails for $4.99 – Meh

This seemed to tone my skin okay, but I have been using my Clinique Clarifying Lotion and I just like it so much better for my skin. I wouldn’t repurchase this one. It wasn’t terrible, I just prefer the results I get from other toners.

Thanks so much for reading my feelings on my trash! 🙂 I hope that you’re having a great week!

FINISH 5 BY FALL (+1 BONUS PRODUCT) – PROJECT PAN CHALLENGE – UPDATE #1

Standard

It’s been 6 weeks since my Intro post for my Finish 5 by Fall PP Challenge so it’s time for an update!

IMG_7635 IMG_7816

The bottom picture is the more recent one if you were unable to tell. There is a tiny bit more pan showing, but not a ton. I haven’t made as much progress as I’ve wanted to since it’s been 6 weeks already, but I also haven’t been wearing a ton of makeup so it’ll do for now. I’ll just keep working on it!

IMG_7634

This is the same picture…I have used it a few times, but you couldn’t tell when I took another picture. *sigh* I will just keep shoving my brush into it waiting for that pan to peek through. Lbs.

IMG_7818

This was new at the start of the challenge so I’ve made some progress, but I feel like I should have made much more in 6 weeks. I just popped the stopper out because I was having to dip it in like 7 or 8 times just to get enough for my lips. I know that they’re full, but that was getting old. Since the stopper is out I have a feeling that I’ll be using it more and will make much better progress. PS I love this gloss and hate that it’s discontinued. 😦

IMG_7624

*eye roll emoji* This is the same picture too! I did get a gel manicure with my friend so I had another shade on my nails for 2 of the weeks, but I have been using it. It is getting pretty thick at this point so IF it makes it to the end of this challenge I’m just going to toss what ever is left.

IMG_7815

I’ve made good progress on the lip liner at least! (I’m measuring from the bottom right corner lol it’s the only way it would fit on the post it) That should be gone by the end of the challenge! And the lipstick is a different shape, but it really isn’t any lower. I need to remember that I have it bouncing around in my purse since it’s so small of a bullet.

Overall, I have made some tiny progress on some of the products, but I really need to remember which products I have in this challenge or I’m going to end up in a project pan funk. lol so dramatic.

Thanks so much for reading and I hope that y’all are having a great weekend!!
